How to use the PNG to WEBP Converter

  1. Upload your PNG.
  2. Press WEBP to convert it.
  3. Use the smaller file on your site.

What to expect

Big savings on graphics

Large PNG files often have the most to gain from WEBP.

Made for the web

WEBP displays in all current major browsers.

Faster pages

Lighter images help pages appear sooner, especially on phones.

Why PNG images slow pages down

PNG is a lossless format, so every pixel is stored. For a small logo, that is fine. For a full-width screenshot or banner, it can mean megabytes of data on each page view. WEBP was built for the web, and it often stores the same picture in much less space.

How we save your file

This converter uses quality 90 lossy WEBP, which gives good savings for most images. Because it is lossy, very fine details can change slightly, so zoom in on anything with small text. Check any see-through areas too. The width and height stay the same as your PNG.

Which PNGs to convert first

Look for the largest image files on your busiest pages, as these usually offer the biggest gains. Full-width banners, large screenshots and photos that were mistakenly saved as PNG are good places to start. Small icons rarely matter much. For logos and icons with simple shapes, consider SVG instead, as it stays sharp at any size and is often very small.

Screenshots in documentation

Help centers and tutorials often contain lots of large PNG screenshots, and they add up fast. Converting them can help pages load much faster. As screenshots have small text, zoom in and check that it stays readable before you publish. If it looks soft, keep that one as a PNG.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to WEBP?

Upload the PNG and press WEBP. The new file is ready to download.

Does WEBP support transparency?

The WEBP format can store transparency, so check the result if your image has see-through areas.

For web pages, usually yes. Keep the originals for editing and for apps that don't accept WEBP.

Usually for large images, but not guaranteed. Tiny icons may see little or no benefit.

Can I convert several PNGs at once?

Yes. Select several files and you get a ZIP containing the WEBP files.
